This remarkable talent has an undergraduate degree in the humanities and she has held a number of positions in education, private industry and local government. Harper was also well known as a popular jazz radio personality with the Pacifica Foundation Radio, WPFW, 89.3FM, in Washington, DC.
She has served as a consultant and panelist for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and has been a contributing essayist to CPB’s Teachers’ Digest, a national educational journal featuring articles by distinguished classroom teachers in content subjects: science, mathematics, and the humanities. As a Naval Research Fellow, Harper studied under the renowned astrophysicist, Dr. George Caruthers. She became a NASA- trained Distance Learning/Interactive Coordinator.
Harper was a member of a 7-member team that created the model for the District of Columbia’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program. She further served as a coordinator to ensure that teachers, citywide, implemented the model, and understood their mission to increase student achievement through the use of subject integrated content and technology in the classroom.
